Managed Learning Environment (MLE) and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
What is a Managed Learning Environment?
'The whole range of information systems and processes of an institution (including a VLE if appropriate) that contribute directly, or indirectly, to learning and the management of that learning.' (JISC MLE Steering Group, 2000 )
Current MLE developments
- Linking learning environments to information systems:- A conceptual 'system' that 'joins up' on-line teaching and learning environments with administrative information and other learning resources
- Portal or one-stop-shop to all resources:- A single location for distributed system that allows learners, teachers and administrators access to a single source of information
