What is a RSS Feed?

RSS stands for Real Simple Syndicate. It's a web format used to publish frequently updated digital content such as blogs, news or podcasts.

How do I read a RSS feed?

You will need a piece of software called a feed reader or feed aggregator. There are plenty of free software products available, below are some of the most commonly used:

Web

Windows

  • Newz Crawler
  • FeedDemon
  • Awasu

Mac OS X

  • Newsfire
  • NetNewsWire

Simply sign up for an account with any of those listed. If you wish to follow an RSS feed, click on the orange symbol (like the ones at the top of the page) and you will then be asked which feed reader you use. Click on the appropriate one and the feed will then be sent to your reader.

All you then do is check your reader - rather than checking all the different websites you get your feeds from. Easy!
