What's the conference about this year?
The conference title this year is 'Preparing Learners for the Future'. It takes place on 16th June at the Rose Bowl in Leeds. The aim is to explore and showcase what we're doing in the sectors we support to prepare learners with the skills and knowledge they'll require for their future, whatever route they may be following, ie. the skills and knowledge they'll need to be effective in employment & training, in higher education, in the everyday management of their lives.
This year's JISC RSC YH Summer Conference will blend hands-on workshops, interactive areas and debate around teaching, learning and training. Sessions will be available online through Elluminate, at the event itself and accessible via RSC TV.
How will it differ from last year's conference?Last year the conference was focused on Active Learning workshops and learning activities using technology in context. For example: solving mathematical problems using Wii Fit, teacher training sessions using pancake tossing and flip cameras, using Google Apps and iTunes U with learners, 3D technology for learning in a health & social care environment, a 'Gadget Show' to explore a diverse range of uses for a variety of devices. This year's conference will contain similar interactive elements, but will also include debating sessions to explore future learning and teaching scenarios and reflection on, given the economic and educational climate, how we might develop real learning opportunities through collaborative, online and distance learning.
